“Hi, I’m Dr. Serena Puga. I have a diverse background in psychiatry, with training that spans emergency and acute care for adults and geriatric patients, residential treatment for co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse disorders, and community mental health in underserved areas facing significant psychosocial barriers to care. In my private practice, I focus on treating complex mood disorders, personality disorders, comorbid medical and psychiatric conditions, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, as well as civil forensic work with Spanish-speaking individuals. I’ve worked extensively with transitional-aged youth, using a combination of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology, with a strong focus on family-centered interventions and supporting functional recovery. I’m also one of the few Los Angeles providers certified by the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research in Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, an evidence-based approach to treating severe personality disorders.”
